  • What is SLEKE.?
    SLEKE. is a company which makes a smartphone operating system (we call it OdysseyOS) designed to give people a phone curated for everyday life. The operating system provides features and applications focused solely on tools for communication and daily utility. You'll find no games, web browsing, or multimedia apps – just features which support you while you engage in real life. Our goal is to make you feel equipped for success as you navigate life in our digitally connected world, but to only provide you with enough tools to interact seamlessly with your surroundings - nothing more.
  • Who is this for?
    You (or someone you know), if you (or they) are looking for a solution which purposefully limits the functionality of the smartphone without overdoing the restrictions.
  • What makes us different from other smartphones?
    We distinguish ourselves by dedicating significant time to identifying the 'Goldilocks zone' of functionality. We believe we have discovered an optimal set of features and guiding principles that deliver just the right amount of functionality to our phone users, without overwhelming them and detracting from their real-life experiences. To interact seamlessly with the world, a smartphone must support a core range of features without excess. However, most mobile phones today either offer too much functionality—beyond what we consider essential—or too little, leaving users under-equipped to engage effectively with their surroundings.
  • How much does the phone cost?
    $333 - available only for the first 100 beta testers, using our operating system pre-loaded onto an upcycled Google Pixel 5.
  • Can't I just delete distracting apps from my smartphone?
    Studies show that when an app is deleted, many people re-download it as soon as they experience a bit of boredom. Or they log-in through the web browser thus still having access to the same content.
  • What would I do with all my free time?
    The choice is yours! We find that folks who use our phone save an average of 4 hours per day. That's about 120 hours a month! What would you do with that much time?
  • What is our return policy?
    Return within 30 days for a full refund unless physically damaged (cases of physical damage are assessed on a case-by-case basis).
  • Do we ship outside the US?
    Not yet.
  • How do I report a problem or send feedback?
    Right from the phone! Take a screenshot or video of the issue → tap the sandwich icon on the top left of the home screen → Report / Recommend. Feature requests or general feedback can be sent in using the same method.
  • What carriers are supported?
    Our phones are carrier unlocked and will work on most US networks (excluding Google Fi). Just pop in your SIM and be on your way. Need a SIM? We hope to soon have plans tailored for data usage typical for folks using our phone (5 and 10 gig plans, unlimited talk/text). Contact us if you are interested now.
  • What is the average airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow?
    Unladen European (or Barn) swallow: Around 11 meters per second, or 24 miles per hour (38.6 km/h). Unladen African Swallow: 20-40 mph (32-64 km/h), with potential for higher speeds
  • What is an unladen swallow?
    An unladen swallow is an otherwise normal swallow that is not weighed down with a load.
  • What phones do we support?
    Currently, we support upcycled Google Pixel 5s. Medium term, we plan on supporting upcycled Pixel 6, 7, and 8, and their derivatives. Long term, we will support a greater variety of upcycled Android devices and offer both pre-loaded as well as software-only products.
  • How do we source our phones?
    We work with phone refurbishers who have to pass rigorous quality standards to ensure that we source only from the most reliable suppliers. We use upcycled phones to reduce the carbon footprint of the smartphone industry overall. By using our upcycled devices, you help to keep these phones out of the landfill.
  • Will we be supported on iOS?
    Not as a full operating system. More limited offerings may be provided as an app down the line.
  • How often do we push updates?
    At least once a month. The amount we update depends on the rate of feedback we receive from people using the phone. If people aren’t requesting new features, we will only push updates relevant to usability, privacy, and security. The experiences of the people using our phone are at the core of our building philosophy.
  • How do we determine what apps to support?
    Before adding an app to our curated store, we do our best to to avoid including apps that don't serve an explicit communication or utility function. That means, qualifying apps must primarily enable communication between people or support a real-life function or behavior. Apps are evaluated on a case-by-case basis.   • What's with the design?
    Short answer: We designed it ourselves (so be nice!). Long Answer: We are currently prioritizing function over form. This is just a short term principle as we work with beta testers to resolve edge cases in order to better serve the needs of people using the phone. Once we address a majority of these edge cases, we will revisit our overall design.
  • What is an answer engine?
    An answer engine answers your internet searches by providing a clear, concise, and text-based answer rather than by producing a list of links (many of them sponsored) that a user has to filter through.
  • Can I open links?
    Yes. In our increasingly technological world, those using our phone need access to links for forms, restaurant menus, paying for parking, etc. Please be advised that certain links leading to websites that fall outside our feature philosophy are blocked. The current length of this list includes around 300,000 websites.
  • What is the intervals feature?
    Intervals lets you choose how often you’d like your notifications to push to the home screen. For example, if you set a 5 minute interval, your notifications will push every 5 minutes.
  • What is priority mode?
    Apps can be set manually to priority. When priority mode is turned on, only notifications for these apps will push to the home screen and you will not see notifications for non-priority apps. With priority mode is turned off, all app notifications will push to the homescreen. This allows you to customize what app notifications you see.
  • Can I scan QR codes?
    Yes. There are currently two options for scanning QR Codes. One in the app drawer under the tab labeled “QR Code Scanner” and one within the phone camera.
